Stephanie and Shayne Reichard see their gym at 75 Winslows Mills Road in Waldoboro as a welcoming place where local fitness enthusiasts can find a well-equipped space to stay healthy.
We’re trying to bring life back to the area, Shayne Reichard said Monday, Nov. 6.
The building that is now Panthers Gym once housed an Agway store, Stephanie Reichard said. They later underwent a series of transformations, first into a swimming pool and spa, then a bar and billiards hall, a gym, and most recently, a two-story gym and fitness center, he said.
The Reichards bought the building, which houses a gym formerly known as TheGym@sbpt and a fitness marketing office, earlier this year. Shayne Reichard knew the place well, having spent the past 20 years as the building’s manager and seeing various changes in ownership, he said.
Although the neighborhood, until recently the gym’s office, will be something else, the Reichards said their focus right now is on the gym.
The previous owners just put a little paint on it and called it good, but they lived in it for a long time, Stephanie Reichard said.
Now, the couple has already made a few changes that they hope will improve the place. Now there are entertainment videos, a free water park, a tanning bed and tanning bed, and a vending machine, Stephanie Reichard said. The family is also planning to buy new equipment.
The Reichards have recently brought in massage therapists to the group and there is already a certified trainer on staff. The coach will also offer small group exercise classes in the coming months, Stephanie Reichard said.
Despite the big changes taking place at the Panthers Gym, customers seem to appreciate the little things, he said, noting that many customers were happy to see the heat turn on as the autumn chill sets in and get free water. .
The gym is open 24 hours a day. While the original review of the gym required an additional 24-hour fee, the new owners have decided to extend hourly access to all members. They will also lower the cost of membership compared to previous fees, Stephanie Reichard said.
The changes have already seen results, as the gym has retained many of its existing clients and recently signed up 40 new clients within a week, he said.
Shayne Reichard, a student at Medomak Valley High School, chose a new name for the gym after the school’s mascot, a panther. Since the gym is Waldoboros’ only gym, they hope it will be useful for local high school students, as driving to gyms in nearby towns is not possible for students who want to exercise in the middle of nowhere. at school with homework or practice.
The youth are the future, he said.
In the end, while learning the ropes of gym ownership has been difficult at times, the community has been welcoming and an enjoyable journey, Reichards admitted.
The biggest thing is just getting the community back, said Stephanie Reichard.
